What to Pack for China

Packing smart is better than packing heavy. Here's a China-specific checklist — what you actually need and what you can skip.

💡 Golden rule: Pack light, shop local. China has great shopping. If you forget something, you can probably buy it there for less.

Electronics & Charging

⚠️ VPN critical: If you don't install a VPN before arriving, you won't be able to download or set one up from inside China. Google, WhatsApp, Instagram, YouTube are all blocked. See our VPN guide.

🛌 Clothing

💡 Tip: Chinese clothing sizes run SMALL. A US/European "Large" may be a Chinese "XL" or "XXL". If you need specific items, bring from home.

💉 Health & Toiletries

⚠️ Important: Some medications banned in China include: codeine, strong painkillers, ADHD meds without approval. Check the China Customs list before packing. Certain CBD products are illegal.
